Do school loans such as the Stafford Loan help your credit history?
- They will only help your credit score if you repay them timely. The best thing to do is have the payments taken directly out of your bank account. That way the payments are always on time. Student loans can wreck your credit if you do not repay them
- Yes and no. If you are going to school and you stop for 6 months and go back to school, once you go back to school the loans are being deferred and so the loans are being reported as "in good standing" so they are helping your credit score. The NO comes in because the more money you owe, the lower your credit score and because the loans are in deferment they are collecting interest. Be careful and good luck. Look up any kind of scholarships you can. I am going to a community college but I already have a transfer scholarship to the business school that I am transferring to. Transfer scholarships are out there if you have the GPA
- The Federal Stafford Loan is a commonly used government loan that provides low interest rates. Some Stafford Loans are based on income and others are not
