why did bush sign a bill last year, raising interest rates by 3 - 5 percent on college loans?
- Because it's proven that college graduates tend to vote Democrat. The fewer people who can afford to go to college, the fewer Democrats we'll have
- it is just a way to further repressed the well educated democrats
- NO - bush is part of the problem, his whole family is, infact that way of life is. THE idea of charging intrest on money at above 2% the amount lost through bad loans and cost of recovery should be criminal. THIS is a major factor in inflation and no one will point this out. IF i have to pay 15% on my credit cards to have a house t. v. stereo clothes food entertainment gas and all the things need to make me want to work then after a year i want a little more to show you appreciate my work and i should share in the profits you make for my efforts. THIS leads to me being able to spend more and want more driving inflation year after year. IN the end if you go to work without successfully moving to the next level of work you will be making less then you had at the begining due to inflation. the only real wealth you may have created was if you purchased a home and that cost you 150, 000 in intrest so you would be lossing money if the price of your home did not increase adding to inflation. The higher personel wealth is the higher inflation and since the 70's wealth has declined in america. JOBS that made america great gone and so we have people that are trained for one thing sell the hell out of it and collect as much money as you can spend it all on loans and die broke. with many americans dieing broke owing on credit cards and there homes banks pick up property they have made money on all along and now get to sell it again for more money
- To pay for the loans. What is your answer, let me guess, raise taxes?
- because he is greedy and evil and all of his policies directly benefit other greedy evil people
- no he doesn't. it's an easy way to get lots of money for many years to come. they push education, but many people have no way to pay for it other than loans. employers don't accomodate flex schedules to go to school either, especially if you are seeking another career. can't blame them i guess, but you know, happy employees are more productive employees usually
- You are correct that George Bush has reduced federal funding for American universities and that federal istance is more expensive, but I draw an opposite conclusion regarding W's priorities. I don't think higher interest rates on student loans indicates that George Bush doesn't care about average Americans. Consider that while Bush has decreased funding for higher education, he has increased federal spending and oversight for primary and secondary education. Since the "average" person does not have the privilege and opportunity to receive higher education, while all Americans are afforded the opportunity to attend school through the secondary level, to me the more rational inference is that Bush "cares" more about the average Amercan. Also consider that student borrowers are among the most frequent defaulters on their loans, and that most student loans do not require payment nor do they incur interest until the student graduates. Still seems like a pretty good deal to me. I'm grateful to live in a country where such opportunities and education is available for so little cost. I understand where you are coming from, but I think your objection to the interest rate hike may be more of a personal dislike of George Bush. When I am confronted with these issues I try to keep the values of my parents' generation in mind - individualism, hard work, expecting nothing from others but being truly grateful for every charity offered. We are so privileged with what we have, and what we don't have we can get for ourselves with hard work, not with a handout from the government
- No, he doesn't care about people. He just wasn't raised to remember Mama Bush's comment about the Katrina victims and don't get me started on his evil dad - he didn't have a chance. You must remember that he was raised rich and has never been poor a day in his life. He's never had to worry about student loans or anything. So it is hard for him to relate to the poor and middle cl Americans. And to be frank, he doesn't care to relate to the poor and middle cl Americans. He panders to them only when he wants something by always citing religion he wasn't so into religion in his cocaine and alcohol filled days of the 70's and 80's though. Remember to always vote for someone who has been poor or middle cl in their lifetime, that way they will be able to relate more to most Americans and their issues a la Bill Clinton. P. S. - "Let them eat cake" is George W. Bush's motto. :
- Hes greedy. he knows that alot of people have student loans, he figure that the rates are already low, and we as the student will not mind paying an extra 3 - 5%
- George Bush hates poor people
- He's running out of ways to feed the poor starving corporations
